Hey Anna, any chance of seeing the scheduling backend? Having written a similar app eons ago (well 4 years ago) the most difficult part is scheduling talks with no clash of timing as well as topics...

I actually thought about one day cleaning up my code and release it as open-source.

I don't think that conference organizers would agree to SaaS, because they want to control their data and possibly extend the app to suit their needs.

As for joind.in, it's currently way too basic, even for talk feedback. That is why I'm going to simply send data gathered from confoo.ca via an API.

I agree that joind.in is the closest thing currently in use and its a must-have for attendees, speakers and organisers - it would be great to see some collaboration on future requirements for joind.in and further contributions to grow that application in the directions we collectively would use.

Instead of building a generic conference app, it wouldn't be a bad idea to create a multi-tenant app that allows conference organisers to use in a SaaS way.

We have a github and a sourcefourge, why not a "conferencehub"? Could this be an extra feature/purpose for Joind.in?

What about this: http://drupal.org/node/519100

Although I'm also willing to see a solution based on Symfony, it's not a good idea to put more time reinventing the same wheels.

We're all reinventing the same wheels. Although we're not using many of the tools you mention for #dpc10 (there's a lot of stuff that an ordinary spreadsheet solves just fine), but still we're building similar features and planning an overhaul next year. Every conference uses the same concepts on their websites, and we all seem to want to build everything from scratch.

Maybe it's an idea to join forces and build a conference website package that conference organizers can help extend and build upon?

Thanks for the mention of Joind.in! I'm glad the community has found it a useful resource. Oh, and if anyone's looking for more details on that API, check out this page http://joind.in/api
